About
the Brookfield Democratic Town Committee
Principles / Beliefs
Brookfield’s
municipal government offers the best opportunity to effect constructive
impact on our day-to-day lives. The Brookfield Democratic
Town Committee believes in the fundamental value of working together
for the common good. The following principles form the framework for
the Brookfield Democratic Town Committee.
Honest Leadership
and Open Government
We believe that
government should be transparent in its actions, inclusive
in its approach, open to ideas, free of special interests, and
committed to providing services to all constituent groups. Elected
officials
are privileged to hold their posts, and are obligated to work for
the common
good in civil and respectful honesty. They must work to broaden
communications to and from constituents. They must dedicate themselves
to fully
understanding their responsibilities and obligations. We expect all
Town officials
and volunteers to conduct themselves to the highest ethical standards
consistent with state statutes, town charter and ordinances.
Education
We believe
the key to success for future generations is to provide every child
with an education that prepares them to succeed in
our constantly
changing world. We believe that it is the responsibility of
Brookfield’s
citizens to insure that quality public education is fully funded
for the benefit of all. We want to meet our responsibilities
to Brookfield’s
children by ensuring that our schools have the resources they
need to help our kids meet high, rigorous standards. We are
committed to expanding
opportunities for all.
Economic Responsibility
We
believe that sound fiscal management combined with investment in
growth and the future is essential. To that end, we believe
that Brookfield’s
fiscal house must be in order. We must restore the Town’s
fund balance. We must provide budgets that support necessary
services, invest
in our infrastructure, improve long range planning efforts,
and expand revenue opportunities without placing additional
burdens on homeowners.
We expect all involved to recognize their fiduciary responsibility,
and to utilize the town’s resources in the most efficient
and effective manner.
Civic Duty, CIvility,
and Respect
We believe that it
is the responsibility of all residents to become informed and involved
in Brookfield’s
success. We encourage open, honest, and vigorous debate
that is based on respect for all.
We call upon all
residents to become constructively involved, proactively
sharing ideas while giving their time and talents to
the community.
Get Involved
The job of the DTC
is to find, promote, and support qualified individuals to sit and constructively
participate in the running of the town of Brookfield through its many
volunteer and elected boards and commissions. An equally important role
that the DTC must serve on a day-to-day basis is that of informed contributor
to the creation and implementation of initiatives that will ensure the
success of Brookfield's short- and long-term growth.
To this end,
we ask all of you to get involved in some way:
- Come to one
of our monthly meetings
and
become part of the discussion. We meet the second Thursday of each
month at 7:30 in Town Hall, but check our calendar for confirmation.
- Consider seriously
sitting on one of the many boards or commissions that allow this
town to function.
Whether
you can afford the time commitment or not, we can always
use your ideas and expertise. Regardless of your political affiliation,
we welcome your
insights, opinions or desires for what you want this town
to
be
and to become.
Remember, your
rights and responsibilities as a citizen
are not
limited to the periodic casting of a vote.

member for more information.
