Alice
Dew
Planning Commission
Dear
Residents of Brookfield
I am running for a position on the Brookfield Planning Commission. I
have served as Chairman of the Brookfield Conservation Commission for
9 years. In that time I have worked to procure, protect and enhance town
owned open spaces, to increase awareness and accessibility for residents
to these open spaces and to assess the future needs of the town with
regard to open space and development. As a member of the Planning Commission
I will be eager to work with residents, developers and town officials
in updating the Plan of Conservation and Development for the town. I
will do this with a deep appreciation for balancing the needs for commercial
and residential development and maintaining the recreational facilities,
open spaces and the historically rural quality of life we have here in
Brookfield.
Previously, I graduated with a degree in Forestry Management with Distinction
from the University of Maine at Orono. I then went on to work for the
U.S. Forest Service in Sierra National Forest as a harvest inspector
for logging sales, both helicopter and skidder, and as a forest inventory
specialist. I went on to work as a co-owner and manager of a construction
company in Bangor, Maine with an emphasis on commercial and residential
alternative energy.
I have been married
to my husband, Edward M. Dew (Mac), for 24 years and we have lived
in Brookfield for 16 years. We have two sons who graduated
from Brookfield High School are currently at the University of Connecticut
at Storrs, both studying Engineering. We have had a wholesale lumber
business in Brookfield for the past 11 years.
My past experiences
have given me an opportunity to deal with land use issues involving
the
government, businesses and individuals and
I feel
I am qualified to serve as a member of the Brookfield Planning Commission.
Thank
you.
